But this is a safe space, we can hash this out!
Your cervical mucus is vital in your journey to get pregnant soon.
You've probably noticed that it changes in texture and consistency throughout your cycle, start making a note of it and the date. And if you're charting your basal body temperature, make a note of this as well with your daily mucus.
When your cervical mucus gets clear and very stretchy, like raw egg whites, it's a sign you're about to ovulate.
It's best to try to time intimacy about a day before your cervical mucus should get stretchy, and then every day or every other day throughout its presence. If you're really worried about timing intimacy, shoot for an every-other-day routine between your periods.
Sperm can live inside you for several days, and you want to ensure it's ready to meet your egg and do the fertilization dance. Once the egg is released, it only lives inside you for anywhere from 12 to 24 hours. That's not a whole lot of time, which is all the more reason you need sperm waiting for it.
The sperm essentially catches a ride in the cervical mucus and makes it way up the fallopian tube. Without it, you may have difficulty conceiving.
You want to get pregnant soon, so you want to make sure your cervical mucus is ready to go.
There are things you can do to improve the quality of your cervical mucus:
- Drink 8 glasses of water a day. If you're dehydrated, it will be difficult to produce quality mucus.
- Baby carrots are packed with Vitamin A and can assist your cervical mucus.
- Many women take plain Robitussin (not DM) in order to loosen up the mucus throughout your body, including your cervix.
- Speak to your doctor about the over-the-counter Evening Primrose Oil. For me, personally, this definitely seemed to help.
- But only take it when you are certain you are not pregnant, that means only taking it during your period or before ovulation. It could cause uterine contractions.
Remember that most manufactured lubricants, like KY Jelly, can actually kill off sperm or create a hostile environment in your vagina.
You can consider Preseed as an alternative, which claims to be one of the only lubricants that will actually help you conceive.
